Easter week Mike, Karen and Brady travelled with Mark Waters to the Philippines. The objectives were to visit KIMs Kids in Manila to work serving in the slums of Manila and then go on to Davao to minister and attend the first graduation of Bethany Bethel Theological Seminary. Bethel Bethany Seminary is a school of the bible started by Mike, Ami Bacate and Pastor D Lamorena with the assistance of Michael Nunmaker and family who provided prayer, advice and financial support.
In Manila KIMs was busy as usual assisting people in poverty through medical assistance, housing and their work in their children's home. Brady and Karen worked the week tending to children, working in the prenatal center and Karen was even enlisted to give stitches in the medical center.
Mike and Mark went on to Davao where they preached and taught in several venues from churches to school and were even asked to preach at a local Catholic funeral where they shared a clear gospel message which was well received.
At the end of the week, Mike and Mark took part in the graduation ceremonies for the first graduating class of the seminary. Forty-four men and women received degrees in Theology, Pastoral Ministries and Christian Education.
Bethany Bethal is a new concept seminary which allow those who are not able to attend a traditional school and do not have online capability to receive a quality education. The school is comprised of an at large adjunct faculty that come to a requested location and conducts classes for a minimum of ten students. The classes are one day a week for a full day. In between classes, students work on various papers, research projects and other project based learning exercises. There is a board of PhD's who review all work and conduct the thesis defense portion of the program.
After the ceremony, several students went to a local beach for some rest and relaxation and to conduct a baptism ceremony. It was a fabulous time of praise and fellowship.
The group returned to their homes in Wuxi at the end of the week to resume their work at International School of Wuxi. Mike is also leading a home study and Mike and Mark participate in English corners designed to coach people looking to learn English and more about or way of life.
If you would be interested in assisting with the continued work, please contact Mike at firstname.lastname@example.org and he will send you a list of needs for the school and for Wuxi. Thanks for reading!
