Warrior
I entered New Orleans Academy at age five for twelve years of training which included military bearing and regular drill. I finished my career at NOA as the Adjutant Captain in charge of the battalion. At seventeen I entered the military and served six years of reserve commitment after a short stint on active duty. Men were coming home from Vietnam and the military was encouraging college as they trimmed the ranks. In 1974 began my journey as a martial artist, training with Mr. White on the University of Louisiana Lafayette campus. The discipline was Tang Soo Do style Tae Kwon Do, the korean art "Foot Hand Way". I later cross disciplines in American TKD, kick boxing, Moo Duk Kwon (another style of TKD), Kyokushin, Tiger Style KungFu, Tai Chi, Baguazhang, Jiu Jitsu, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Krav Maga, Haganah, Hapkido, Akido, American Street Karate and American Mixed Martial Arts. In all I have been a student for thirty-four years. I have been privileged to study with such noted artist as as Mr. Jim Choate, Saiko Shihan Y. Oyama, Carlson Gracie and Grandmaster Pieratt. Through ASBKARATE we teach our own curriculum developed through the years of diverse training. This same training has led to the development of a life skills through martial arts curriculum being used internationally through MAVV and MARS. We believe in training the whole person inside and out. We teach that martial arts is not about kicks and punches but about becoming a better person. I currently sit on the board of the World Black Belt Federation and am an adviser and instructor with ASB Karate in Dripping Springs, the school owned by Instructor, Mr. Pumphrey.
